This example demonstrates the application of Energy Intellect's products (Metrology/Control/Interface) in conjunction with an industrial communication and control network.
This example utilises a combination of RS485 and Ethernet based TCPIP communications options to network VM meters and VMX units into a control system providing automated measurement and control capability.
The VM Meter and VMX combination can be connected to the industrial control system via Ethernet or RS485. The VMX can be used as a control device itself or provide an input to a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) in order to intelligently control connected load using energy as part of the control logic.
The SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition)/BMS (Building Management System)/EMS (Energy Management System) interface is provided by the VM Gateway. The gateway provides protocol translation and register marshaling allowing connected VM meters and VMX units to communicate via Modbus. This provides the connected systems with real time energy data allowing the integration of this data with other inputs available throughout the control system.
Alternatively the entire system can connect to Energy Intellect's iE2 platform for interval data management and data visualisation via Energy Intellect's web based reporting suite - Clariti
